THE WINES

My aim with each wine is to spark joy, accompany cherished moments, and mirror a sense of harmony. This mission drives me in my craft of producing artisanal wines.

How I work

At the heart of my efforts lies a 4-hectare family vineyard, where I grow exclusive white grape varieties like Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc. My membership with the Vinea Wachau regional protection association holds me to the principles of hand-harvesting the grapes and classifying my wines into the categories Steinfeder, Federspiel, and Smaragd.

My vineyards represent a space for me to continuously dialogue with nature. This engagement helps me cultivate grapes that, when mature, offer an invigorating acidity and sheer drinking pleasure. I strive to create wines that present a delicate balance of fruit, acidity, and vividness – wines that are a joy to understand and savour without needing a guidebook.

STEINFEDER

The Steinfeder® label takes its name from the characteristic "Steinfeder" (feather grass; Stippa pennata), a common sight on the Wachau's steep dry slopes.

The wines under this category capture a sense of this lightness, symbolised on the labels. The windswept Steinfeder grass depicted in the lower right signifies the cool breeze that rolls off the slopes, while the traditional dried bouquet in the upper left captures the essence of warm summer days.

These wines contain no more than 11.5% alcohol by volume.

FEDERSPIEL

My Federspiel® wines possess a powerful body without sacrificing their fruity charm and balanced acidity.

Historically, the term "Federspiel" was used to describe the decoys used in falconry, a practice once common in this region.

In reference to this tradition, the falcon has become a representative symbol of this category of wine for the Vinea Wachau, and can be found depicted on the labels. The falcon embodies the wine's strength and expressiveness, while the daisy symbolises its fruity and delicate side.

Wines in this category have an alcohol content between 11.5% and 12.5% by volume.

SMARAGD

The Smaragd® wines can be best characterised by their depth, body, and well-balanced acidity. These wines are typically made from grapes grown on terraced vineyards nestled against warm stone walls, a habitat frequently shared with the native green lizard (Lacerta viridis).

The green lizard, a creature that revels in the sun before darting back into the shelter of the stone wall where the stonecrop thrives (represented on the top left of the labels), symbolises the intriguing interplay of power, warmth, and enduring gentleness found in these wines.

All wines falling under this category boast an alcohol content of at least 12.5% volume.
